Titles Shown at AnimeNEXT 2016

Thanks to AnimeNEXT for inviting us once again! All of our panels were quite successful, and hopefully some of you who took notes or our cards will be checking this page. We’ve got a decade of past episodes available in our Review Index, and we also write for Otaku USA Magazine as anime reviewers. Here’s what we talked about at our panels. Where appropriate, we’ve provided links to our podcast episode reviews of the titles as well as where you can legally watch. Many have no review links because we wrote about them for Otaku USA instead of doing a podcast. All are missing major, noteworthy titles because time was limited and we always have more material than we have time.

  1. Someone has blu ray rights to Arcadia of my Youth? [Nope, Japan only for now. Fixed. Still, Arcadia remained in print for so long here that I feel it’s a lock to get re-released. –Daryl]

  2. I’m going to be off-topic here simply because I’ve been tardy for the past few months, but something about the review for Knights of Sidonia made me think of a recent video I saw that reminded me of how cheap Japan can be with CG animation when they shouldn’t.

Nintendo recently release a 15 minute animated preview to a new game they released in the Star Fox franchise. They had Production I.G. do it, but it’s pretty obvious they went the same route with wanting a hand-drawn 2-D look with their CG models. Still it looked pretty colorful and it’s got some charm with those characters.

And on the other end of the spectrum, one obsessed Star Fox fan went ahead and made his own animated series that already landed a C&D from Nintendo themselves, so he simply changed the title to highly-imaginative “A Fox in Space”. For such an amateur production, it’s quite well done. It’s like the modern day’s equivalent of “Desslok’s Revenge”. A second episode is currently being produced.

And because I was impressed at this, someone did a downgraded VHS pan & scan version of this! Just like the mid 90’s!

  3. Millennium Actress being pulled from Paramount Vault on YouTube really sucks. All I could find for a decent price now are Italian versions on Amazon. Those don’t have English subs though.

    1. That is kinda sad they did that. I guess word of mouth overwhelmed its presence there. I see they got rid of a few other movies like 1986’s “Gung Ho” they had placed there, though apparently Jacob’s Ladder is still available to watch.

  4. I wish I could go to a GOOD convention, like this one. Sadly, cannot travel much, or far.

Also, I will never live to see you cover Night on the Galactic Railroad on the show 🙁
